The exhibition “Gärtnern Jetzt!” (Gardening Now!) highlights all facets of urban gardening and shows how green spaces contribute to a sustainable and future-proof city.

The challenge

To unite different exhibitors in a coherent design that at the same time leaves room for a wide variety of themes.

Our approach

A simple design with playful accents that reflect the diversity of urban gardening.

Skills

Scenography, graphic design, exhibits

As a part of the overall exhibition “Die Stadt und das Grün” (The city and the greenery), “Gärtern Jetzt!” (Gardening Now!) shows in the Stadtlabor of the Historisches Museum Frankfurt an overview of the facets of gardening in the city.

From private hobby gardeners to artists' associations, cooperatives and citizens' initiatives, everyone could make a contribution. In workshops with over 50 gardeners, we collected their themes and ideas for the exhibition and developed a concept that showcases the different sides of urban gardening.

We bundled the broad selection of art, culture and knowledge into four thematic blocks: nourish, experience, care and get involved.

All projects were given their own exhibition space, which optimally showcases the content and messages of the projects and at the same time embeds itself in the overall design.

A simple but clever furniture concept uses quotations from gardening as communication carriers and eye-catchers: from the walk-in beanstalk framework to the raised-bed gardening and the long table at which products grown in the garden can be eaten.

By carefully arranging the exhibits, photos, installations, showcases and atmospheric stagings come together to form a unified yet diverse overall picture. Wood as the main building material and the fresh colours of the graphic design developed especially for the exhibition contribute to the natural look and feel. In terms of sustainability, all materials are reusable or recyclable.
