For the opening ceremony of the New Old Town, the drone show “Constellations” combines light, music and language above the Main to create a poetic homage to Frankfurt.
A public and media-effective presentation on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of Frankfurt’s New Old Town.
A multimedia synthesis of the arts, with LED drones in the leading role.
Conception, planning, realisation
The drone choreography poses a great challenge, because the images resulting from the positioning of the drones must be recognizable from many different perspectives. In front of the verspertine Main river scenery, the flight formations of the drones are accompanied by the sculptural light effects of differently coloured sky beams.
“Frankfurt is a place of diversity and contrasts. For centuries the dialogue has been lived and celebrated here with sovereignty. Traces of this diverse urban identity can also be found everywhere in the New Old Town. We use the newest generation of technology for an iconographic performance that honours this cosmopolitan attitude of Frankfurt in poetic images. The Main, the city's lifeline, is the perfect stage for this”.
Stefan Weil, managing CCO of Atelier Markgraph
Sebastian Hohberg and Jan Mayerhofer created a fusion of classical music and electronics especially for this occasion. They reinterpret parts of the composition by the composer Georg Philipp Telemann, who lived in the Old Town. The embedded quotations come from the pen of probably the most famous former inhabitant of the Old Town, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - a passionate proponent of diversity in his day. He is one of the voices in the symphony for a contrasting urban identity whose ”Constellations” create a narrative mirror image.
